Businessmen support arrival of Arista to the MEF

Today the official data on the fall of the GDP Peruvian during 2023 and, poetically, coincides with the first steps of José Arista as Minister of Economy and Finance.

Yes you have the technical capacity

“(Alex) Contreras had lost credibility. He failed to revive the economy despite all his enthusiasm. Now, we hope that José Arista understands the logic of the mypes,” Daniel Hermoza, president of the United Mypes Association of Peru, told La República.

In his opinion, Arista has the technical capacity to leverage those who make up 99% of the business fabric, since during his stay at the MEF, eight years ago, he created the special subdivision for the mypeswith which they were honest and divided the tax debts.

Susana Saldaña, president of the Gamarra Peru Associationhopes that Arista does have an open-door policy, and not only remembers the mypes “from its desk.”

The immediate thing would be the publication of the emergency decree to buy one million school kits and comply with the law that establishes that 40% of state purchases must be directed to producers.

Likewise, the Impulso regulations must “change now” Myperu to ensure that at least 85% of the guarantee fund reaches small businesses as new credit.

Take care of the fiscal order

Julio Pérez Alván, president of ADEX, assures that the minister has to be very cautious with fiscal management, since he faces an economy in recession and with the fiscal deficit rule broken — it is expected to be -2.8% of GDP —, which cuts his margin of action. “We must take great care of the fiscal deficit because it meant that we have a successful model and we have a good degree of investment,” he noted.

Furthermore, he assures that the recovery of confidence is vital to have a more favorable rebound, considering that we should grow at 6% annually to absorb the youth workforce, but it would barely reach just over 2%.

Unique opportunities this 2024

Pérez Alván adds that the inauguration of the Chancay megaport, the creation of Special Economic Zones, the expansion of the Jorge Chávez airport and APEC will be vital to revitalize the image of Peru. In addition, he considers improvements in road infrastructure and unblocking of projects to be key so that exports do not close another year with a weak growth “that leaves nothing to celebrate.”

Saldaña, meanwhile, believes that support for mypes would be limited if there is no “a more efficient Ministry of Production”, since there is no progress in public purchases.
