MTC: local trains from Lima to Ica and Barranca will be ready in 2031

The Minister of Transportation and Communications, Raúl Pérez-Reyes, reported that within the road complementation plans around the Chancay megaport, local trains from Lima to Ica and Barranca will play a fundamental role in terms of connectivity. They would already be operating by 2031 at the latest.

“We have agreed on the addendum to extend Lurín (Line 1 of the Lima Metro) so that when the local train is there (sic) Both Ica and Barranca have an intervention window until 2031 if we do the complete section“, mentioned the head of the MTC in the Chancay Project Special Commission of Congress.

The official recalled that a first section will be worked on for both destinations, and, depending on demand, it will be expanded: to the small north, the commuter train will go to Huacho and to the south, to Cañete. “If the demand justifies it, it will grow to Ica and Barranca,” he added, but not before emphasizing that under these criteria, “probably in 2029” the work will already be complete.
