James Cameron may never shoot “Avatar” parts 6 and 7. He knows what he will do then

Although “Avatar 4” and “Avatar 5” are still not made, James Cameron already has ideas for the next two parts. However, he doesn’t know if he will be able to shoot it. It’s about the long production time and the age of the director himself.

The 3rd part of “Avatar” is scheduled to hit theaters at the end of 2025. There are also plans for two more parts, “Avatar 4” and “Avatar 5”, but these, as announced, will appear on screens in 2029 and 2031, respectively. The plans, one might say, are very distant, but James Cameron claims that he already has an idea for the next two films, i.e. the 6th and 7th part of the series. However, the director has doubts whether he will be able to make these productions. It’s about the time he would have to devote to making each film.

So Cameron is considering handing over custody of “Avatar” to someone else. “We already have the script for the fifth film ready, I even have ideas for the sixth and seventh, although I will probably pass the baton then… I mean, mortality is catching up. But I want to say that we enjoy what we do. We love it. We have the opportunity to work with wonderful people,” said the director in an interview with Collider.

“Avatar 3” is currently in the post-production phase. The cast includes Sam Worthington, Zoë Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi and Kate Winselt. The plot of the 3rd part of “Avatar” will tell about a clan called the “People of Ashes”. “In the early films, there are very negative examples of people and very positive examples of Na’vi. In ‘Avatar 3’ we will do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds, continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best,” he said in an interview with Variety James Cameron.
