UGT-Euskadi fears an escalation of stoppages in steel mills due to the price of electricity

The general secretary of the Federation of Industry (FICA) of UGT-Euskadi, Antonio Ríos, has shown its concern about an escalation of stoppages in the industry such as that of Sidenor due to the “exorbitant” price of electricity.

“We understand that these prices they are going to drag other factories they were already having enough difficulties due to energy costs. We fear that other plants like Arcelor or Nervacero in the end they will also be affected by this rise that they will not be able to maintain, “he warned.

Speaking to Europa Press, Ríos stated that “if the Government and the electricity companies do nothing, we are going to have a problem. The companies are going to have to stop a lot or a little, which is a shame because there was production and there was demand” .

For this reason, it has shown the union’s discomfort with the attitude of those who must respond to this rise in the prices of the electricity bill, which affects citizens, “but we do not realize many times that companies are also affected a lot, to the point where they are stopping. “

“We are going to have a much more serious problem in Euskadi, because the steel sector is very powerful. Let’s see if we are able to resolve this issue one way or another, so that prices are controlled and that make it easier for companies“, has manifested.
