The Chairman of the Board of Petroperú, Mario Contreras, announced this Wednesday that the concession contract for the exploitation of Block 192 would be signed in January of next year.

“At the moment, we are waiting for the promulgation of the Emergency Decree authorizing Perupetro and Petroperú to sign the aforementioned license agreement. Once signed, Petróleos del Perú (Petroperú) will assume control of said lot ”, he explained before the Energy and Mines Commission of Congress.

In that sense, Contreras Ibárcena specified that they are awaiting the final issuance of the Prior Consultation Report, which according to the Deputy Minister of Hydrocarbons of the Minister of Energy and Mines, Jorge Chávez, “is on the verge” of being published.

“We hope that in January the license agreement between Perupetro and Petróleos del Peru will be signed,” Contreras said.

Who will do the operation?

It is worth noting that the previous administration of Petroperú signed an investment contract with the Canadian company. Altamesa, which according to the current directory has not been given in accordance with the law because the contract between Petroperú and Perupetro has been signed.

In that sense, Tomas Diaz, manager of exploration, production and oil pipeline of Petroperú, pointed out that this case is in the Comptroller’s Office for its respective evaluation.

Likewise, Díaz advanced that Petroperú will bet on a subcontractor to operate, maintain and invest in Block 192, an option that would leave Altamesa out.
