The Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE) provided permission for the registration of the National Union of Digital Platform Workers of Peru (Sintrapladi Perú). In this, food delivery people are grouped together, who are mainly foreign citizens.
This permit has a registration date of November 28 and will be valid until August 2025. This was done with the objective of giving security and recognition to said workers.
What are the claims of the National Union of Digital Platform Workers of Peru?
The general secretary of the union, Harvey Buitrago, in an interview with Epicentro TV, pointed out that they mainly request respect from companies, especially from the restaurants for which they are intermediaries. They report that there are times when they have not received good treatment from the establishments because they are not their workers.
On the other hand, in matters of job security, they ask that their insurance be recognized. In this regard, Buitrago points out that companies use it the moment they have the package; However, if they suffer an accident before picking it up or after delivery, it does not apply to them. Likewise, they state that they have suffered a reduction in their salary: the payment per kilometer traveled was reduced by 50%.
With respect to citizen security and criminals who infiltrate to use them as camouflage, employees want companies to provide values courses to identify real workers. In addition, they requested that the Government listen to them to make decisions on its formalization.
It should be remembered that, previously, the MTPE had rejected their registration and gave them 10 days to correct their observations.
“The first observations were that we had not included all the boys who were signing. They were telling us to enter the immigration status of each of the members. This is a difficult job among ourselves because we have different schedules, but in the end could be achieved. However, once the issue has been resolved, they make other observations,” said Harvey Buitrago.
