Repsol, the operating company of the La Pampilla Refinery (Relapasa), rejected that 25 of the 30 beaches affected by the January 2022 spill continue to be contaminated, as recently stated by the General Directorate of Environmental Health (Digesa).

According to the Spanish capital company, the list of beaches referred to in the Digesa report, released on November 20, “corresponds to OEFA information issued in October 2022”, that is, more than a year ago.

In this sense, the company stated that Digesa has not considered the 8 public reports from OEFA nor the 3 reports carried out by the National Water Authority (ANA), all published in 2023 on the condition of the affected areas.

“We express our deep concern about the outdated information, the lack of veracity about the current situation of the areas affected by the spill and the consequent confusion generated in public opinion,” Repsol denounced.

Finally, the company guaranteed that today there are suitable conditions for the reactivation of fishing and recreational and commercial activities, since both the sea and the beaches “meet both national quality standards and the demanding standards of Canada ( taken as a reference for sediments)”.

The complete reports from the authorities can be found on the “Repsol Commitment” web portal, as well as the reports carried out by the company through organizations of great international prestige.
