The exports from Peru to Israel, although they do not reach such a significant volume compared to other destinations such as the United States, Europe or China; have maintained a remarkably stable trend in recent years.

During this year, Until August, shipments to this Middle Eastern country amounted to US$7 million 700,994which meant a reduction of 34.64%, compared to what was registered in the same period last year, when US$11 million 783,206 was reached, according to data provided by the Exporters Association (ADEX).

If this period (January-August) is taken into account, in the last 10 years, with the exception of 2022, the amount of shipments ranged between US$4 and US$9 million.

What products are exported from Peru to Israel?

In recent years, non-traditional exports have led shipments to Israel. For example, between January and August 2023, shipments of this type amounted to more than US$7.4 million; On the other hand, the traditional ones only amounted to a little more than US$245,000 in total.

The export basket from Peru to Israel is made up of more than 60 products. Firstly, there are fruits and others uncooked or boiled in water, which so far this year have achieved more than US$1,164,000. Cinchona follows, except for planting, with more than US$946,000.

Also noteworthy are blueberries (US$804,656 until August 2023), wool fabrics (US$442,609), herbaceous plant seeds (US$432,867), unliquefied or cooked mango (US$420,945), tomato seeds (US$400,952), juices lemon (US$326,250), among others.

On the traditional export side, the only products shipped were unalloyed zinc, which totaled US$179,695; and unroasted coffee, with US$66,179

Among the most important exporting companies to this destination are Aris Industrial SA (US$690,754 until August), Agroindustrias AIB SA (US$546,120), Hortifrut-Perú SAC (US$517,126), etc.

What would be the impact of the war on exports?

The director of CIEN-ADEX, Edgar Vásquez, points out that the first effects of what is happening in Israel are manifested in global markets, such as the price of the dollar and oil.

However, it warns that the 67 Peruvian companies that export to Israel would be affected, depending on the duration of the conflict. “In general terms, the Middle East is a little explored market due to its remoteness and lack of free trade agreements, a fact that is still an issue on the agenda. If the situation continues, the circumstances will no longer be based solely on expectations. negative in the dollar and oil, but also in supply,” he commented.

In that sense, he urged the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Trade to put together contingency plans for companies that will be harmed.
