Peru’s ProInversión seeks investors in Chile for a highway worth almost US$1 billion

As part of an investment promotion campaign, ProInversion He came to Chile to seek capital interested in the construction of the Longitudinal de la Sierra Highway Section 4, a 950-kilometer road that will require an investment of more than US$914 million.

The concession, which will last 25 years, will benefit 1.6 million Peruvians in the departments of Junín, Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Ica and Apurímac.

“There have been no social conflicts in this area. On the contrary, the population in these areas is waiting for this project, which was announced in 2017,” said Luis Gonzales, director of ProInversión Transportation Projects, for local media DFSUD.

The route that the new Longitudinal de la Sierra Section 4 would cover will be key for the transit of products derived from agriculture and mining, which must leave through the port of Callao.

It should be noted that the ProInversión delegation will not only be in Chile, but will also visit European countries such as Spain, England and France. The bidder window is expected to close in November and the award would be finalized in December 2023.

The agency attached to the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) recently updated its portfolio of public-private partnership (PPP) projects, incorporating 24 initiatives with an investment requirement of US$ 2,536 million.

The project consists of the concession delivery of 955 kilometers, which connect the departments of Junín, Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Apurímac and Ica. Of which 770 kilometers correspond to initial periodic maintenance, 180 kilometers to rehabilitation and improvement, and 5 kilometers for construction, operation and maintenance, which seeks to achieve minimum levels of passability, comfort and safety.

The technical and economic update of the project is scheduled for May. In June the bases and contract will be updated. The prequalification of bidders will last until November, and it is estimated that the final version of the contract will be available by December. Finally, the award would be in January 2024.
