If you perform economic activities independently, this does not have to prevent you from accessing employment benefits, such as being part of the National Pension System (SNP), which is administered by the Provisional Standardization Office (ONP). What is the SNP?

The National Pension System (SNPs) is a sharing system. This means that the contributions of active workers are those that finance the pensions received by retirees. It was created through Decree Law No. 19990 and allows people who have contributed 13% of their monthly fees for a minimum period of ten years to receive a pension until the end of their days at the end of their working life, at age 65.

Requirements to join the ONP

  • Not having a labor relationship with any employer.
  • Not be affiliated or affiliated with the Private Pension System (SPP).
  • Not be entitled to a disability pension for work or retirement in the SNPs.
  • Not be a beneficiary or beneficiary of a non-contributory pension by MIDIS or the National Solidarity Assistance Program – Pension 65.
  • Submit the request according to the Optional Assurance File.

ONP 2023: can I join if I am a minor?

The official government portal establishes that minors can apply to the ONP become optional affiliates by filling out the Optional Assurance Sheet. Once this is done, you may be contacted by trained staff by phone or email, if necessary, within 30 business days to inform you of the outcome.

What is the ONP?

As specified in the transparency portal of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, “It is a decentralized public institution of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and its mission is to guide its efforts to achieve the well-being of retirees through friendly and fair treatment, using efficient processes and high quality standards. It has its own funds and assets, functional, administrative, technical, economic and financial autonomy, constituting a budget statement”.
