APAVIT calls for more flexible travel measures to boost tourism

As part of the efforts to promote the tourism sector in Peru, the president of the Peruvian Association of Travel and Tourism (APAVIT), Ricardo Acosta, reported that last Saturday, October 9, a meeting of business associations linked to tourism was held where they proposed, among other measures, to reconsider the request for the molecular test to enter Peru for the antigenic test. These were exposed to the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sánchez, and the Vice Minister of Economy and Finance, Alex Contreras, who also attended the congregation.

“For very simple reasons, such as the high cost of a molecular test, an approximate of 150 dollars per person ”, indicated Acosta, who maintained that other business associations related to tourism also participated in this meeting.

Likewise, he argued that the time it takes for the test results may vary with the moment of infection, “the person who performs the test 72 hours before the trip does not imply that he is not contaminated 70 hours before, so it makes no sense to demand said proof ”.

Likewise, in order to reactivate the economy, Acosta asked to make travel measures more flexible, thus allowing the interest of foreign visitors, as well as encouraging travel by Peruvians and residents abroad. “Although the priority of the sector is the health of all our compatriots, it must be taken into account that maintaining the protocols will avoid risks of new infections”, He indicated.

The tourism sector has been one of the most affected by the pandemic. The meeting was held with the purpose of exposing the general problem that affects tourist activity, as well as the solution proposals to achieve its economic reactivation. “It was a very productive meeting due to the great reception and perception of the problems faced by Travel Agencies from the participants of the Public sector,” said the head of APAVIT.

They request constant dialogue

As part of the proposals presented to reactivate the tourism sector and the country’s economy, Ricardo Acosta also asked to reactivate the working groups between the public and private sectors. “In which problems and solutions are raised by holding fortnightly meetings, a table that without any justification has been inactive for a year,” he said.

The work tables would help to avoid serious consequences for the final consumer. He suggested that before publishing a decree it should be agreed with the private sector. “As an example, the decree published regarding the entry into our country with vaccine and molecular test, the same one that prevented the travel and return of the population under 27 years of age who to date are not inoculated in our country ”.

On the other hand, the holder of APAVIT, requested the appointment of a Vice Minister of Tourism since for more than 40 days this position has remained vacant. “Interaction and monitoring of the different issues between both sectors would be facilitated,” he said.
