England coach extols the team’s quality and gets excited about Phil Foden’s performance

England coach Gareth Southgate said the fierce competition for spots in the national team was being a headache. This Tuesday, against Hungary, for the World Cup qualifiers, the commander is preparing to make more changes in the team.

“We will certainly make changes. We have a very strong squad. We want the team to feel involved and it is important that they know they are valued,” said the coach at a press conference. “I was very satisfied with the quality of the performance against Andorra. We’re achieving a really consistent performance level, which is great to see,” he added.

Phil Foden caught the eye at the National Stadium, where he deployed a deeper midfield function. Southgate said his match in the 5-0 rout was “fabulously exciting” for England.

“I have a headache and I commit a crime every time I pick a team,” he said when asked if Foden had made it difficult to pick a team. “It’s always very difficult,” he said. “We have so many good players and such good competition. Many players did very well, brought their confidence and that is nice to see,” concluded the coach.
