Peruvian Coffee Day: coffee shops as an oasis to disconnect from routine

Currently, the consumption of Peruvian coffee is by around 1.6 kg per person per year, marking a significant increase from the previous level of around 0.9 kg. This increase has been driven by the joint promotion of this gram by the public and private sectors, as well as by the determination of young entrepreneurs who have turned their love for this drink into a business opportunity.

Franshesca del Castillo, founder of Oriunda Specialty Coffee & Tea (Av. Ricardo Palma 240), is one of these, young people whose passion for this drink led her to open a unique space for coffee lovers in the districts of Surquillo and Miraflores.

The Oriunda cafeteria, founded in January 2020, was established in the midst of the challenges imposed by the pandemic. “We inaugurated on January 11 and on March 16 we were surprised by the pandemic,” says Franshesca. Despite these circumstances, she kept the vision of creating a place where people can disconnect from the routine, relive their memories and stimulate her imagination.

Franshesca’s decision to get involved in the world of coffee was born from the personal experience of enjoying this drink in the company of friends. This routine inspired her to create a place where people could disconnect and reconnect with each other while reminiscing about beautiful moments from her childhood. This is how the name “Oriunda” was born, which means “originating from somewhere”.

Initially, Oriunda worked with coffee from Cajamarca, Cusco and Villa Rica. However, during the pandemic, he focused on coffee profiles from microlots located in the Rodríguez de Mendoza province (Amazon). The quality of the beans is crucial, and to guarantee it, a close relationship with coffee growers was established, ensuring a controlled production process from harvest to roasting.

The commitment to quality is reflected in the selection of beans, the roasting process and the choice of profiles that highlight the aromatic and organoleptic notes of Peruvian coffee, says Franshesca.

For coffee lovers and those looking for an authentic experience in Lima, Oriunda offers a space where Peruvian coffee comes to life and provides a journey through the senses and memories. As part of the celebrations for Peruvian Coffee Day, this Friday, August 25, the cafeteria offers a complimentary glass of coffee with the purchase of desserts and sandwiches.
