Fixed and mobile internet speed in Peru falls in regional ranking

The Peruvian Organization of Consumers and Users (Opecu) reported the situation of internet speed in the Peru, according to the Ookla ranking, Speedtest Global Index for August and Mobile Global. Although the fixed internet increased from 55.07 to 56.74 megabits, and in mobile it rose from 24.38 to 25.46 megabits, Peru fell in its position worldwide. In fixed signal, it fell two positions, ranking 97 out of 140 countries, and in mobile it dropped one position: it is number 72 out of 180 countries.

On the other hand, in South America, Peru is in position 7 out of 12 countries in fixed download speed, while, in mobile signal, it is in position 5 out of 11 countries.

“The speeds do not respond to the current imperative needs of optimal connectivity that requires the provision of services in teleworking, education, online health, digital commerce, among others”, mentioned the president of the Opecu, Héctor Plate Cánepa. Likewise, it stated that the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel) must rule on it.

Figures globally

On a global average, the fixed internet download speed rose from 107.50 to 110.24 megabits, that is, it rose by 2.74 Mbps or 2.55%.

The country with the fixed internet fastest is Singapore with 262.20 megabits, as well as Hong Kong, which rose with 254.40 Mbps to second place, and Monaco with 242.89 megabit per second, the latter being the one who fell to third place in fixed download speed.

As to mobile Internet globally, internet download speeds grew from 55.07 to 56.74 megabits, thus increasing by 1.67 megabits or 3.03%.

In that sense, it is United Arab Emirates who holds the first place in speed, with 195.92 megabits. South Korea, is in second place, with 192.16 Mbps, and Norway, with 173.54 megabit per second, it is in third position.

Speed ​​in South America

In fixed speed, Chile rose from 209.45 to 209.83 megabits, growing by 0.38 Mbps or 0.29%, which places it in ninth place globally. Thus, it continues as a leader in the region, fourth in the OECD and second in TPP11. Brazil increased by 4.38 megabits to 108.88 Mbps and is second in the region, while Paraguay rose to 72.94 megabits per second, ranking third.

Colombia it grew by 3.28 megabits or 5% to 68.44 Mbps and remains in fourth place. The coffee country took advantage of Guyana, which increased 0.98 megabits per second or 1.6% to 62.22 megabits and is in fifth place. For its part, Uruguay, with 61.23 Mbps, it maintains its position in sixth place.

The Peru It is in seventh place, above Argentina, which rose by 1.55 megabit per second or 2.8%, which makes the southern country eighth in the ranking.

Brazil, with 33.47 megabits, it continues in third position and Argentina, with 20.60 Mbps, it takes fourth place.

Peru occupies the fifth position, while the speeds of Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Colombia and Venezuela They range between 7.41 and 23.17 Mbps. These last countries are between the seventh and eleventh place, according to the order mentioned.
