With the objective of delve into three axes: trade, investment and education between Ecuador and Israel, last night the launch of the Ecuador-Israel Chamber of Innovation and Commerce (Cicei) was held, which seeks to attract investors and enhance their mutual cooperation. The launch of the Cicei, which was done at an event attended by representatives of the productive and diplomatic sector, occurs after two years of its creation, in December 2019.
Israel, known as the Start Up Nation, is a leader in technology, being the third country (after the United States and China) with more companies listed on the Nasdaq, the American stock market oriented preferably to technology companies. In addition, it has more than 8,000 startups with a population of 9,000,000 inhabitants and dedicates 4.2% of its GDP to development, research and innovation.
In this sense, Monica Heller, director of the Chamber, said that there are great opportunities to generate ties between the two countries. For example, from Israel you can transfer technology and innovation, while Ecuador can place its exportable products.
Additionally, Heller emphasized that Ecuador is the Latin American country that exports the least to Israel. Chile sells Israel products for $ 119 million a year, Paraguay $ 132 million annually and Ecuador just $ 9 million. The executive explained that Israel has a good demand for fruits, vegetables, flowers and cereals.
“It is the opportunity for Ecuador to place its products, goods and services in Israel and that Israeli companies invest in Ecuador as they have already done. There are several Israeli companies that not only invest in Ecuador, but also improve the technology that is applied and used in the country, “he said. Kurt Freund, president of Cicei.
The launch date of the Cicei coincided with the 74th anniversary of Ecuador’s vote in favor of Resolution 181 in the UN General Assembly that led to the creation of the State of Israel, a historic moment for the Jewish country.
At the launch event, Israel’s ambassador, Zeev Harel, highlighted the rapprochement of the countries with the arrival of Guillermo Lasso, who will soon visit Israel with a group of young people to learn about the Israeli innovation ecosystem.
Zeev Harel, who is also vice president of the Chamber, invited the country’s businessmen and entrepreneurs to join Cicei: “The Ecuador-Israel Chamber of Innovation and Commerce has a very important role in promoting and creating commercial alliances between the two countries. I invite everyone to join and participate in this great project that is the Chamber of Innovation and Commerce ”, mentioned the diplomat.
