Emma Coronel will hear her sentence in United States court today

Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán’s wife is accused of three crimes related to drug trafficking.

This Tuesday at 12 noon, the hearing will begin in which Judge Rudolph Contreras, of the District of Columbia Court in Washington, will sentence the Mexican Emma Coronel, detained since February 22 after landing in the Dulles International Airport in Virginia.

Coronel is the wife of the drug trafficker Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán. The prosecution in the case suggested a punishment of four years in prison, five years of supervised release and a fine of one and a half million dollars for the defendant.

On June 10, 2021, Coronel pleaded guilty to three counts: conspiracy to distribute heroin, cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine to import it illegally into the United States; conspiracy to commit money laundering, and for getting involved in transactions and business with a drug trafficker, her husband Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán.

According to the United States government, Colonel AispuroFrom 2011 to January 19, 2017 (coinciding with the date of El Chapo’s extradition to the United States), he conspired “knowingly and intentionally” in drug trafficking.

The United States government asks that Coronel, who has two minor daughters with El Chapo, Emali Guadalupe and María Joaquina, be sentenced to 48 months in prison and five months of probation. (I)
