During May, the fishing production contracted 70.60% due to the lower extraction of species of maritime origin (-76.15%) for indirect human consumption, according to the INEI’s Situational Advance report.
7,620 tons of anchovy were caught in May, while in the same month last year 1,069,431 tons were recorded.
However, the INEI indicates that fishing for direct human intake (4.28%), fresh consumption (22.9%) and curing preparation (10.9%) increased.
Fishing of continental origin increased 5.81% as more species were caught for fresh consumption.
Domestic cement consumption fell 11.88%
The internal consumption of cement —one of the indicators most related to construction— fell 11.88% due to the low level of private works and self-construction.
Mining picks up
The mining and hydrocarbons sector rose 16.74% year-on-year due to the expansion of metal mining (21.02%) and the higher production of copper (36.1%), molybdenum (17.1%), zinc (8.2%), lead (5.3%) and tin (6.5%). On the contrary, gold (-7.4%), silver (-4.7%) and iron (-3.7%) decreased.
Meanwhile, hydrocarbons fell by 4.47% due to the lower exploitation of crude oil (-8.3%), natural gas liquids (-3.9%) and natural gas (-1.8%).
