In Ecuador, relations between employer and employee can in some cases become strained and lead to an analysis of the employment relationship. Local legislation empowers both employer and employee to do so if they meet the necessary justifications.

The rule that regulates these relations is the Labor Law, in its article 169, it states that there are nine ways to terminate an individual contract, namely:
