Fish falls, but chicken and egg prices rise again

The prices per kilogram of chicken and eggs rebounded again in various markets in the capital at the beginning of the penultimate week of June, while fish fell due to the moderation of the abnormal waves that were reported weeks ago.

As verified by a team of The Republic, the price of chicken in the La Aurora de Cercado de Lima market went from S/8.50 to S/10 per kilogram on average, while the pink egg was offered at S/10.80. In the Limoncillo market, in Rímac, the bird climbed from S/8 to S/9.50, and the egg remained at a still distant S/12 for the housewife.

At the other end of the city, the vendors of the Carmelitas de San Juan de Lurigancho market quoted a kilogram of chicken at S/9.30 on average, from the S/8 with which it had been put into circulation just a day before. Meanwhile, the egg could be found between S/9.80 and S/10.80, a value almost identical to that of the day before.

Finally, in some supply centers of the third and fourth zone of Las Flores it was verified that the the price of chicken went from S/8.50 to S/10while the egg was still below S/11.

According to the official report of the Supply and Price Information System (Sisap) of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), the value of eviscerated chicken in retail markets reached S/9.91 per kilogram this Monday; increasing by 4.3% in relation to Friday the 16th.

While, the wholesale price of the egg reached S/9.20very close to S/9.22 of the average of the last seven days.

Both the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and the Central Reserve Bank (BCRP) had anticipated a significant decline on the market boards the previous week as a result of a moderation in the bird flu on the farms. There was even talk of inflation close to zero in June, leveraged by these basic basket products.
