The OECD gave Guillermo Lasso a study on public integrity in Ecuador

The agency recommends that the country establish a National Integrity and Fight Against Corruption System.

In an event held in the Government of Guayas, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) presented President Guillermo Lasso with the study called: Public Integrity in Ecuador: towards a National Integrity System. The report recognizes public integrity as a relevant factor for economic development and improvements in public policies.

The Communication Secretariat of the Presidency reported that from October 20 to June 2021, more than 30 actors from the public, business and civil society sectors participated in the investigation. The study had the contribution of the German Cooperation GIZ through a diagnosis and recommendations for the implementation of a Public Integrity System according to the reality of the country and based on the best experiences of other developed nations.

The OECD proposes in its study that the country establish a National Integrity and Fight Against Corruption System, led by the President of the Republic; that within the National Development Plan 2021-2025 a roadmap is defined that culminates in a National Strategy for Integrity and the Fight against Corruption for the period 2023-2026; the formulation of a long-term State integrity and anti-corruption policy; in other aspects.

Lasso thanked the international organization and stressed that the report clearly indicates what the actions of the Public Service should be.

While Frédéric Boehm, head of the OECD technical team, stated that the fight against corruption is a priority for most nations. It is important to call for an inter-institutional and effective coalition, he said.
