The Labor and Social Security Commissionchaired by congresswoman Sigrid Bazán, approved summoning the head of the Ministry of Labor (MTPE)Antonio Varela Bohórquez, to an upcoming session to give explanations about his State policies in the labor field and regarding the accusations of plagiarism against his thesis.
With 18 in favor, 0 abstentions and only 1 vote against, which was cast by Fuerza Popular congressman Jorge Alberto Morante Figari, the request was authorized.
Along these lines, Gerónimo López Sevillano, representative of the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP), denounced that Varela has deactivated the legal technical team that formed the previous head of the MTPE, Alejandro Salas, to defend Supreme Decree 001-2022- SA, which seeks to provide better working conditions and limit the labor outsourcingbefore 340 amparo actions and 8 popular actions.
“We are concerned that Minister Antonio Varela has changed all the officials and now they are all representatives of the economic power groups. In addition, when DS-001 was published, he was the first to reject it, stating that it greatly harmed companies, ”he indicated during his participation in the ordinary session on Tuesday, May 2.
For his part, Gilmer Ibáñez Meléndrez, general secretary of FETRIMAP-CGTP, called on the current head of the MTPE to speak out and clarify his position also with respect to the Supreme Decree 014-2022-TRwhich modifies the Regulations of the Collective Labor Relations Law.
“We have always seen him participating as an arbitrator on the other side, where he has been part of amparo proceedings defending the interests and rights of employers with reference to limiting the exercise of the right to strike by workers,” Ibáñez specified. Along these lines, he requested that Varela indicate whether he will continue with the same position or change his mind in relation to DS-001 and DS-014.
Finally, the collectives and unions also requested explanations about the recent allegations of plagiarism against the minister’s thesis.
