Makhachev’s agent Abdel-Aziz said that the fighter is not interested in a rematch with Volkanovski
Ali Abdel-Aziz, agent of the Russian champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Islam Makhachev, spoke about the athlete’s unwillingness to rematch with Australian Alexander Volkanovski. The words of the agent leads the YouTube channel The Schmo.
Abdelaziz said that the Russian is not interested in a second fight with Volkanovski, because he will not bring any benefit. “Honestly, I wanted to see a rematch, but after everything that his team said against us, everything was destroyed,” he added.
The agent also revealed Makhachev’s plans for the future. “Islam can defend the title against Beneil [Дариушем], and if he continues to win, then at some point he will rise to welterweight, ”he said. Abdelaziz called the fight against Dariush the most difficult challenge in the Russian career.
On February 12, Makhachev defeated Volkanovski at UFC 284 via unanimous decision. He made his first defense of the organization’s lightweight title won in October.
In total, in his professional career, 31-year-old Makhachev won 24 victories and suffered one defeat. The 34-year-old Volkanovski has 25 wins and two losses.
