MTC: operations on the second landing strip of the Jorge Chávez airport will be from 2 to 5 in the afternoon

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (TCM) reported that the air operations of the second landing strip and the new control tower of the Jorge Chavez International Airport. The descent and takeoff time on this surface is from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Previously, it was from 4.00 to 6.00 pm

On the other hand, he explained that, since the new airport infrastructure began to function, a total of 493 air operations have been attended, of which 259 have been landings and 234 takeoffs. 60,748 passengers have been transferred on these flights.

“These air operations are managed from the new control tower, by Córpac specialists, as part of the familiarization process with this modern building and the new configuration of the second runway,” the MTC said in a press release.

Currently, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., passengers board their flights normally from the current airport passenger terminal. Once the boarding process is complete, the aircraft rolls down the first runway, passes in front of the new control tower and lands at the north end of the second.

From that point, the plane awaits authorization from air traffic controllers to finally take off towards its destination. For landings, the aircraft arrive at the new runway and move to the current passenger terminal, where users disembark as usual.

According to the ministry, these activities are part of the operational transition stage in which the airport is, which implies a progressive use of the new infrastructure.

“This phase is of the utmost importance so that air traffic controllers, pilots, personnel on the ground side, crew members and all airport operators, in general, become familiar with the new infrastructure,” highlighted the MTC.

Finally, he added that, in this way, they will be prepared to progressively move to the phase of operating two landing strips simultaneously, which will happen gradually once the new passenger terminal is completed in 2025.
