Petroperú: Pedro Chira is made official as the new Chairman of the Board

As anticipated by La República, the general meeting of shareholders of Petroperú appointed Pedro Chira Fernandez as the new chairman of its board.

Chira Fernández — a petroleum engineer trained at UNI — had been serving as vice president, and will now take the reins of the board of directors of the state firm after the resignation of Carlos Vives.

In addition, the new president of Petroperú has an MBA from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and 39 years of experience in the hydrocarbons industry, including within the state company; as well as technical leader, Operations manager and manager of Applications and Technology Development in the transnational Halliburton.

The JGA also appointed Pedro Méndez Milla and Artemio Reátegui Soria as members of the Petroperú Board of Directors, both also engineers by profession with four decades of experience in the field.

The new directors include Briggit Bencich Aguilar and José Olivares Canchari, as well as Antonio Manosalva Alarcón (representative of the workers).

Why did Carlos Vives resign from the presidency of Petroperú?

In dialogue with La República, Carlos Vives explained that his resignation is not due to discrepancies with the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) regarding the return of oil lots to the company — as reported by other media — and stressed that they have agreed with the Minem about the arrival of Petroperú to the Talara lots.

“Just as there is a current that wants the return of the oil lots to the company to benefit the country, there is a very strong current that does not want it, and that, suddenly, wants the company to collapse so that someone is behind watching what happens, and says, since the company has already collapsed, I buy the refinery or I keep the lots “he added.
