MEF evaluates questioning the new ONP recognition bond before the Constitutional Court

The owner of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Alex Contreras Miranda, affirmed his position against the approval by insistence in Congress of the recognition bond, which would recognize a balance to affiliates who, since 2002, moved from the Pension Standardization Office (ONP) to the AFPs.

According to the minister, this measure would have a strong fiscal cost of more than S/5,000 million in the first year, what would be an unconstitutional spending initiative. In addition, he said that a new observation against the regulations is being evaluated and that it could go as far as the Constitutional Court (TC).

“We are evaluating a new observation at this time and if we have to go to the Constitutional Court, we will do it,” said Contreras. “The position of the MEF is clearly contrary to this rule, especially in a context where there is a pension reform proposal on which we sent the report to the commission that is managed at the Executive level and is already being discussed,” he added. this Thursday April 20 to TV Peru.

Finally, he specified that he hopes that said proposal, submitted at the end of March, will soon close its debate and that the MEF will maintain its position against the regulation that would also have a high fiscal cost for the country.

“Only in the first year we are talking about more than S/5,000 million and this is particularly important in a context where there are very large social gaps and we are facing an emergency. In the end it ends up being a spending initiative that we know is unconstitutional”, concluded the head of the MEF.
