The secret weapon against ticks. Soon you will find her under your fence

Ticks are a real bane. This is especially true for dog owners, fanatics of walks and people who have a backyard garden. There are many ways to deal with them, but you probably didn’t know this.

You have probably passed by densely growing, intensely yellow, small flowers on the side of the road or meadow more than once. If you come across them next time, it’s worth taking a few twigs with you. The tansy we are talking about is a great tick repeller. In the rest of the article, we explain how to recognize this plant, when and where to look for it, and what to do with it.

What does wrotycz look like?

Tansy is a plant whose stem reaches up to 1.5 meters, so it is not difficult to notice it, especially since its flowers are characterized by an intense yellow color. Arranged densely one next to the other, they form large “baskets”. You will also recognize them by the intense smell, similar to camphor. It is he who makes both ticks and other insects (flies, mosquitoes) avoid the plant from a distance.

You will find it practically everywhere

Tansy is an invasive species and when cultivated at home, care should be taken to prevent it from growing too much. But we don’t have to sow it in our garden to take advantage of its properties. It grows densely in meadows, roadsides, and in the vicinity of forests. And when can we start looking for them? The first flowers will appear soon – they bloom from June to August. So it’s worth collecting a little more of them in the season and drying them.

Collect, dry and prepare the infusion

To use the tick-repellent effect of tansy, you need to prepare an infusion. For this you will need a handful of dried flowers. Pour two cups of boiling water over them, cover and leave for 30 minutes. After this time, strain the liquid, and then – before going to the forest or for a walk – rub it on the exposed parts of the body. You can also pour it into a bottle with an atomizer and spray the body. Some people also use this infusion on animal hair.

However, not everyone can use tansy. It is not recommended for pregnant women because it has an abortifacient effect. As with other herbs, you should also do a test on a small area of the skin. This way you will make sure that no allergic reaction has occurred.
