Roque Benavides: “We were received by Minem in a way we hadn’t been for a long time”

Roque Benavidesexecutive president of Compañía de Minas Buenaventura, recognized the work that the Minister of Energy and Mines, Oscar Vera Gargurevich, is doing to regain the confidence of the country’s extractive industries, beginning with mining.

During his speech at Conamin 2023, organized in Trujillo, engineer Benavides recalled the meeting held a few days ago with senior representatives of national mining, such as Las Bambas, Antamina, Chinalco and Minsur, at the Minem headquarters.

“I want to highlight that, a few days ago, we were summoned by the Minister of Energy and Mines to a meeting at the ministry where, openly, of course, transparently, we were able to convey to him all the concerns of the industry, how we could do to improve. And we were received, as we had not been received for a long time. Me, I want to highlight that opening,” he said.

In this sense, the also dean of the Lima Departmental Council of the College of Engineers of Peru (CIP) affirmed that the framework of these meetings is carried out with the necessary transparency to revitalize mining investments hand in hand with the Peruvian State.

“We are not pigeonholes. We have to work in the public and private sectors if we want to move our beloved Peru forward. There is no other way than through dialogue and communication, which we must always have in our country. So thank you very much, Minister.” said Benavides Ganoza.

“Many people seem that now they have to play behind the scenes, well the mining industry has always been very transparent and we are going to continue on that path,” he added.
