According to the estimates of the Ecuadorian foreign trade authorities, pitahaya has great potential for research in the Chinese market, which has a population of 1.4 billion, of which 400 million belong to the middle class with average incomes.

The fruit comes from Palora, which is one of the main fruit producing areas in Ecuador, with plantations covering around 2,400 hectares. In 2022, Ecuador exported more than 23,000 tons of fruit to different destinations, representing more than 99 million dollars.

The commercialization of yellow pitahaya will benefit small Ecuadorian producers who plan to send 400 tons of pitahaya per harvest to China, which will represent 1,000 tons of exports per year.
