Ensuring service and prohibiting the movement of two people on a motorcycle. These are the requirements that make National Chamber of Petroleum Products Distributors of Ecuador (Camddepe)through a letter to the president William Lasso.
In the mentioned letter, which was signed by the president of Camddepe Ivo Rosero, they exposed the problems of insecurity that affect them, as well as the demands they make to avoid events with victims.
Warning for a suspected car bomb in Quitumbe, south of Quito
According to the document, there were several moments that were critical on different services. For example, last week, on April 6, a car bomb containing a gas bottle with dynamite caps caused panic in the Quitumba sector, south of Quito; and something similar happened on Trinitaria Island, also south of Guayaquil, on November 1, 2022.
Added to this problem are attacks, extortion, as well as hired killers, for which they again require the presence of an armed soldier at service stations located in the sectors that are considered the most threatened.
And it is not the first time that they have asked for help from a uniformed police officer, they did so after twelve terrorist attacks suffered between November and December 2022 in Guayaquil, Santo Domingo and Esmeraldas. They did not have an answer on that occasion.
An alarm was sounded at a gas station in the south of Guayaquil for a suspected explosive device
The National Chamber of Petroleum Products Distributors also calls for the entry into force of restrictions on the movement of two people on a motorcycle. “In our country, 95 percent of attacks and criminal acts are committed by two people on a motorcycle, and the one behind is always the one who is armed or has explosives.”
They claim that this measure in “previous governments” gave results and they believe that now they can help prevent crimes and protect the safety of citizens.
The trade union does not require the approval of the Assembly or the Constitutional Court for these actions.
