Pedro Castillo: “GDP growth is not enough if it is not accompanied by social welfare”

President Pedro Castillo He addressed the CADE Executives 2021 panel during its closing day and reiterated that his government will maintain legal guarantees for private investment, but demanded a mutual commitment from the sector to comply with its tax and labor obligations.

“Entrepreneurs have all the guarantees to invest in Peru. In the country there is and there will continue to be legal security and clear rules, and that is why I call on good businessmen, who I am sure are the majority, to continue betting on the country, invest without fear and create jobs with rights. And to the bad entrepreneurs, who are also there, do not take advantage of the crisis and anguish of the Peruvians, respect the rights of their workers, be responsible with the environment and comply with their tax obligations“Said Castillo.

In this sense, the head of state remarked that, despite the criticism received since the beginning of his administration, at no time has he tried to ignore the contracts or confiscate assets from the private sector, as a sector of the press and Congress continue to repeat.

“Many of you, esteemed businessmen, not only doubted me, but some, who knows, voted against our candidacy. I dont complain. Well, that’s how democracy is. But since the campaign there has not been a single day in which some sectors do not stop calling me a communist, a terrorist, responsible for the increase in fuel, dollars, food. They said he would confiscate houses and savings. I ask, has the government expropriated someone?”, He expressed.

Likewise, Castillo stressed that the growth of GDP in numbers must be accompanied by the social welfare of all Peruvians, especially after the gaps deepened after the passage of the pandemic.

“GDP growth is not enough if it is not accompanied by social welfare for all. If development forgets the poor, it is not development. It is said that the pandemic demonstrated the precariousness of the state. In reality, what he has done is to finish revealing what was wrong for a long time, ”said the president.

Castillo: Peruvian economy will grow 13%

On the other hand, President Pedro Castillo warned CADE Executives 2021 that his government will not be tolerant with the commission of monopolies, oligopolies, underemployment and price agreements to the detriment of the population, for which he asked all businessmen to unite to eradicate these bad market practices.

“The social market economy it does not allow monopolies, oligopolies and price agreements. An authentic social market economy is one that promotes and protects the interests of the majority, encourages free competition and does not tolerate the use of the law for its own benefit (…) Macroeconomic growth will be of little use to us if bad practices and bad vices continue to be entrenched, ”Castillo said.

Finally, the president seconded the message of the Minister of Economy and Finance, Pedro Francke, and referred that the growth of the Peruvian economy, well above national and international estimates, will close 2021 at around 13%, making Peru one of the countries with the lowest deficit in the region.

“Beyond our own estimates and that of other national and foreign institutions, which was just over 10%, by the end of the year our economy will have grown around 13%, surpassing the most optimistic forecasts. This rapid recovery, together with a favorable international environment, has also allowed the fiscal deficit to achieve a reduction to October of more than 4%. With this, this year Peru will be one of the economies with the highest growth in the region and with the lowest fiscal deficit ”, he remarked.
