The Federation of Industrial Chambers of Ecuador called for the defense of the rule of law, democracy and institutionality in the country. while refusing actions aimed at destabilizing the state. For a productive union, stability creates security, and Ecuador requires predictability to promote investment and create jobs. The statement was made in connection with the situation in which the country finds itself.
In an official statement, the union indicated that we have not yet managed to recover from the pandemic, so the country needs to work. “Stages and chaos do not solve the pressing problems of Ecuadorians.”
In this sense, a call to action in the face of the real problems of the country was sent. For the guild, these are:
· Uncertainty. The population of Ecuador cannot continue to live in fear. 2022 was the most violent year in history.
· Chronic malnutrition of a child. The data is devastating. 27% of girls and boys under the age of two have chronic child malnutrition. In rural areas, it reaches 39%.
· Education. It is alarming that the average Ecuadorian student has a difference in education of 3 years compared to a student from a developed country in science and reading.
· Unemployment. It is unacceptable that 4,500,000 Ecuadorians live on less than 3 dollars a day and that 6 out of 10 people do not work in adequate conditions.
Finally, the call was to build a program of minimum agreements, considering that actors who have not traditionally been on the same coast can and should meet in spaces of consensus in order to reduce social gaps.
In its statement, the Federation, chaired by María Paz Jervis, indicates that polarization deepens these gaps and distances us from what we really need to do as a society: fight for peace and security, create new jobs and new opportunities that allow us to eradicate poverty, informality and chronic malnutrition of children.
We are making an urgent call for a constructive dialogue between different political, production and social actors, stripping away personal and group interestsin framework of unlimited respect for democracy that guarantee stability achieve a inclusive economic growth that creates investment, employment and social development,” the statement said.
While the Ecuadorian Business Committee called for the protection of the state’s institutions, as a pillar of every democracy, guaranteeing respect for the constitution and the law.

“That is why we call for respect for the independence and independence of the Constitutional Court, avoiding all external pressures intended to influence its final decision. The Constitutional Court is the one that must decide whether the reasons and arguments presented by the National Assembly are sufficient to initiate proceedings for the removal of the President of the Republic. Political agendas cannot interpret regulations as they please. Such a measure must strictly adhere to constitutional norms, with complete fairness and transparency,” reads the press release published this Monday, March 27, 2023.
The business committee also demands that the political class overcome its differences and urgently start working on a consensus to solve the problems that concern the citizens.
