This year, in September, the Ethnographic Film Festival celebrates its eighth edition and the call is now open to all filmmakers who wish to participate.
This edition is dedicated to Historical Memories. “We understand memory as a situated social process, a horizon that transcends and strains official history,” indicates the organization.
“We are interested in thinking about historical memories, not just as images of the past, but as anticipated memories that allow us to glimpse other futures”, they add.
The call is aimed at audiovisual productions that may be related to: ethnofiction, collaborative methodologies, auto-ethnographies, indigenous ethnographies, memories and heritage, documentaries, non-fiction, afrofuturism, indigenous futures, artistic productions, dissent, counterculture and found footage.
“In the same way, we look for projects that include new formats: animations, audio, transmedia documentaries and other proposals”indicates the organization.
The bases indicate that the running time of the films is understood as follows: short films, no longer than 20 minutes; medium length films, between 21 and 40 minutes. And feature films, between 41 minutes and a maximum of 120 minutes
There are two categories, student and filmmaker. The student category corresponds to the films produced within the framework of a research work developed mainly by visual anthropology and documentary film students.
The category of filmmakers corresponds to those films produced by social scientists and filmmakers, whose fields of activity are concerned with ethnographic and documentary cinema.
Interested parties who want to register with their audiovisuals must complete the online registration form until May 26, 2023. “No renewals will be made, please contact us in advance via email if you have any problems registering your application”.
