Large companies made 94.7% of shipments until September; mypes only 5%

The Exporters Association (Adex) reported that a total of 7,248 companies shipped their products abroad between January and September, an increase of 17.6% compared to the same period in 2020 and 4.6% compared to 2019, in the prepandemic period.

According to a study by the Global Economy and Business Research Center of the CIEN-ADEX Exporters Association, this increase is explained by the better global environment given the resumption of commercial activities in the main destination countries, which favors a greater demand .

“Another important factor in the accumulated period was the low comparison base in 2020. As a result of the health crisis, many firms stopped shipping abroad,” said the head of the institute, Carlos Adriano Pérez.

By size, 64.1% (4,645) were microenterprises; 28.3% (2,049) small; 1.4% (99) medium and 6.3% (455) large, with which the MSMEs concentrated 93.7%. Another 1,805 stopped venturing abroad: 82.9% (1,494) were micro; 11% (199) small; 0.5% (9) medium and 5.7% (103) large.

Despite this, it was observed that a total of 2,888 companies exported or resumed this activity, a number that was also a historical record, offsetting the 1,805 that did not register sales abroad.

Adex: value exported to September

According to the value exported between January and September 2021, 94.7% of the total shipments were made by large companies (US $ 37.590 million); 3.8% for small companies (US $ 1,503 million); 1% for medium-sized (US $ 415 million) and 0.5% for micro (US $ 196 million).

Thus, although MSMEs accounted for 93.7% of the number of exporters, in FOB amount they represented only 5.3% of the total. At the sector level, 76.7% of the total (5,561) participated from a single productive sector. On the contrary, only 4.2% (302) were more diversified, participating in four or more areas.

In the same period, the highest number came from the agro-industrial sector (2,026), followed by metalworking (1,594), chemical (1,347), clothing (1,061), textile (568), non-metallic mining (447), among others. In contrast, only 49 were recorded in traditional fishing and 43 in hydrocarbons.

Adex: many offices, little variety

Regarding the variety of products sent, 46.6% of these companies (3,376) sent only one, which shows the null productive diversification and a risk in their participation in the foreign market. On the contrary, 10.5% (758) diversified their dispatches abroad, having ten or more articles.

“If we consider only those that have a destination and export a single product, the number is 2,607, which increases the risks of permanence. Within this vulnerable group, 78.3% were micro, followed by small (16.6%), large (4%) and medium (1.1%) “, he said.

Adex: most exporting regions

Finally, in terms of regions, Lima concentrated the highest number of exporters (4,804), followed by Piura (550) and Callao (536). On the other hand, Huancavelica was the region with the lowest number of companies (23).
