He Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), approved, through Supreme Decree No. 002-2023-MTC, the provisions for the provision of the National Roaming service. This is mainly aimed at providing mobile public service in populated centers with smaller populations and benefiting up to approximately 3.6 million Peruvians.
Along these lines, the norm establishes that populated centers with a maximum of 1,000 inhabitants and with operators with a home network that do not provide public services will have access to the National Roaming service.
“Through this norm, the citizen of these small towns will be able to continue connected to the mobile service, inside and outside the coverage area of their operator. That is, the continuity of the service is allowed, taking advantage of the existing infrastructure and avoiding the duplication of costs”, specified Paola Lazarte, head of the MTC portfolio.
The implementation does not require adaptation at the antenna level and the possibility of choice is extended to mobile service consumers. In detail, it is a type of sharing in which an operator (of the home network) makes use of the mobile service of another operator (of the visiting network) to provide services to its end users in areas where coverage is available. This applies to both voice, SMS and data services.
