More than 90% of the Kutxabank branches in the CAV and all the Navarrese offices have closed in the first bank strike called jointly by all the unions represented in the entity (ELA, CC. OO., Pixkanaka, ALE, LAB and Asprobank), in demand of a reinforcement of the staff that alleviates their workload.

During this day of strike, several hundred people have gathered in front of the Kutxabank headquarters on Bilbao’s Gran Vía, where they have chanted slogans such as “the most solvent bank, at the expense of its people” and “more staff, more quality, less pressure and more security”.

In the absence of specific data on the percentage of the workforce that has supported the strike, “what we can say, without a doubt and without a margin of error, is that more than 90% of Kutxabank branches have closed in the CAV and that in Navarra, 100% of the offices are closed”, assured Oiana Lasagabaster from ELA.

In the offices of the rest of the State, “monitoring has also been very high”, with “provinces where 100% are closed”.

Thus, he stressed that “this strike has been a resounding success“And for this reason, all the union sections trust that the bank’s management will listen to them and sit down to negotiate to “reverse the situation” suffered by the workforce.

Kutxabank “boasts itself of being the most solvent at the state level, it is having very important benefits year after year and, nevertheless, it is mistreating the workforce” each time “with a greater workload, subjected to a pressure brutal trade and long working days” that “decreases the health” of the people who work in this Basque bank, he denounced.

The 75 contracts that Kutxabank has announced are “insufficient“to alleviate the current workload and, furthermore, it has not been detailed what percentage of these contracts” are people who are already within the entity, with which we would not be talking about new hires, but about consolidation of positions that already exist in the entity”.

of the rest of new hiresthe unions also do not know “neither under what conditions nor how they would be distributed throughout the geography” and for this reason they demand information, although they have warned that, in their opinion, “at least double” the announced hiring would be necessary.

For the unions, this day of strike is historic because 2 years ago the first strike was called in Kutxabank during the negotiation of the agreement, but this time they have called it all central represented in the bank and also the support among the staff has been almost total.
