Petroperú stopped a leak in the Norperuano Pipeline in Amazonas

Personnel from the state company place a metal clamp to contain the oil spill in the area.

This Friday, January 27, operating personnel from Petroperu managed to enter the area affected by the oil spill on January 18. Thus, in the early hours of the morning, in order to contain the leak of crude oil, a metal clip was placed at kilometer 390 of Section II of the Norperuano Pipeline (ONP) in the province of Condorcanqui, Amazonas region.

This action is part of Petroperú’s Contingency Plan, which also seeks to contain and recover the oil spill caused by an intentional cut last week. In this way, the state company indicated that its personnel will continue with the pipe repair work in the following days. In addition, supervisors from the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA) were also present.

In addition, Petroperú pointed out that since the attack became known, the surroundings have been maintained, with the equipment to seal the pipe and start the containment work. However, they affirm that they could not gain access due to opposition from some leaders and protesters in the area.

In that period of time and coordination, the state company proceeded to install containment barriers in the Chiangos River, after the consent granted by other neighboring communities. This action prevented crude oil from expanding further.

Finally, they recalled that prior to the cut, since January 14, protesters attacked the ONP pipeline and set fire to the pipeline located at kilometer 389 of Section II.
