Time it will take to implement changes after popular consultation, among the doubts that the binational chambers exposed to the Government

The business sector, especially the chambers that represent bilateral trade relations between Ecuador and other countries, reviewed and analyzed the content of the eight questions of the popular consultation on February 5 and made their doubts and concerns known to the legal advisor of the Presidency of the Republic, Karen Sichel.

This during a meeting held last Thursday in Quito and organized by the Federation of Binational Chambers of Ecuador (Fecabe), in which Sichel addressed and explained the questions of the referendum.

The popular consultation addresses the following issues:

After reviewing and explaining each question, Sichel commented that the questions have been prepared from the citizenry with a country perspective. “Ecuadorians with this consultation have the power to decide, the best benefit that this popular consultation will leave us is that Ecuadorians better understand our institutional design so that we can inform ourselves, educate ourselves and better supervise our leaders,” said the official and assured that It has been made clear that the citizen consultation brings proposals for change and its purpose is to fight organized crime and promote development.

Meanwhile, Carmen Sánchez-Laulhé, vice president of Fecabe, detailed some of the observations that the sector presented to Sichel after his intervention.

Among these is, for example, how long it would take to implement the different measures, if the effects they expect to have from the consultation are going to be immediate or in the medium or long term.

“The lawyer responded that there are things like the issue of extradition that are expected to be very agile because there are already bilateral treaties with countries that contemplate it; and that there are others such as the issue of the Citizen Participation Council that require legislative changes and that therefore would take more time” revealed Sánchez-Laulhé.

The vice president of Fecabe added that the impact of this consultation is linked to aspects as important as citizen security and legal certainty, essential for companies, but also for the well-being of all citizens.

“Ecuadorians gain representativeness and, therefore, guarantees. All this entails greater stability, which is what the country needs for its development, to attract investment, to generate opportunities. From the business sector we have the responsibility of working with a vision of the country, for the future that people want and need,” said the union leader.

During this meeting, emphasis was placed on the need for citizens to go to vote, the fundamental thing is that it be an informed vote, knowing in depth the content, motivation and impact of the questions that voters will face at the polls next month. February.

Likewise, the businessmen recalled the importance of citizens seeing actions and tangible results after their participation. (YO)
