Pumas terminates Daniel Alves contract after pretrial detention for sexual assault in Spain

Pumas, from Mexico, terminated the contract with Brazilian defender Daniel Alves. The experienced athlete was preventively arrested this Friday after giving testimony to Spanish justice in a case of sexual assault in which the player is involved.

Who announced the breakup of the bond with the Brazilian player was the president of the club, Leopoldo Silva, in a statement to the press. “The Universidad Nacional club has taken the decision to terminate the employment contract with the player for just cause,” said the executive.

“With this decision, the club reiterates its commitment not to tolerate acts by any member of our institution, whoever it may be, that violate the university spirit and its values. The Universidad Nacional club is an institution that promotes respect, integrity , worthy and professional of its men and women, on and off the field”, reinforced.

Dani Alves’ contract was valid until June of this year. The Brazilian arrived at the Mexican club as a reinforcement for last year’s Mexican Championship dispute. In 13 games played, Daniel Alves provided five assists, but did not score a goal.

Earlier, Pumas released an official note citing being aware of the case and that the club “will carry out appropriate actions and sanctions, as established in the contract signed with the player”.
