Country music star Dolly Parton accepted the Poet's Award virtually at the 19th ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville on Wednesday, August 19, following medical advice to avoid travel.
The 80-year-old singer was unable to attend the event in person at The Pinnacle venue after doctors recommended that she refrain from traveling due to recent health issues.
Parton recently disclosed that she has experienced occasional dizziness and dehydration. Following her doctor's advice, she cancelled her upcoming scheduled appearances to focus on her health.
The virtual appearance at the ACM Honors follows a last-minute cancellation on August 15, when the country icon pulled out of a scheduled performance for health reasons.
The health setbacks come during a difficult personal period for the singer, whose brother died on July 28. The cause of her brother's death has not been made public.
Tribute to Songwriting and Creative Identity
Appearing via a pre-recorded video message during the ceremony, Parton expressed deep gratitude to the Academy of Country Music for recognizing her with the Poet's Award.
In her message, Parton reflected on the central role of songwriting throughout her career. She noted that although she has accomplished many things in her life, songwriting has always remained the core of her creative identity.
She stated that every dream she ever harbored and saw come true in her life began with a song. Describing her craft, she added that songwriting served as her therapy, her outlet, and her joy.
Parton also described songwriting as a gift from God that enabled her to touch people through words and music.

The ACM Honors is an annual event organized by the Academy of Country Music to celebrate special award recipients, songwriters, and industry figures. The 19th edition brought country musicians and industry leaders together at The Pinnacle in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
