Demand for electric stand-up paddleboards in Russia has grown 70 percent, according to the Telegram channel Shot, which reported rising interest in the motorized watercraft described as a option for the lazy.
Consumers are increasingly choosing electric paddleboards with motors that allow riding without a paddle or physical effort. Prices range from 40,000 to 500,000 rubles depending on motor power and range, with budget models lasting about two hours and pricier versions running up to six hours. Speeds range from six to ten kilometers per hour.
No Separate Regulation
Russia has no separate regulation for electric paddleboards because of their low motor power and speed, so they are exempt from some rules that apply to motorboats. Owners can travel freely on routes used by small vessels, which increases the risk of collisions and could lead to more accidents on the water.
According to the company Platforma, paddleboard sales in Russia rose 176 percent, or more than 2.5 times, year over year in the first nine months. Dmitry Batyushenkov, general director of Platforma OFD, said the average purchase price for paddleboards rose 21 percent from January to September, reaching 29,500 rubles.
