Crusoe and Aalo Atomics to Power AI Data Center With Nuclear Reactor by 2027

Crusoe and Aalo Atomics have announced a partnership to build the first AI data center powered by a small modular nuclear reactor, with a demonstration project planned for 2027 at Idaho National Laboratory.

The first phase will connect a Crusoe Spark modular data center, running on the Crusoe Cloud platform, to Aalo Atomics’ Aalo-X reactor. Aalo Atomics said it is already building a second reactor near a test facility at the lab to serve as the commercial version of the system.

If the tests succeed, the partners plan to begin deploying Aalo Pod energy complexes using 50-megawatt XMR nuclear power plants at Crusoe’s commercial sites by the end of 2029.

Aalo Atomics CEO Matt Loszak said the company was one of four to achieve reactor criticality under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Reactor Pilot Program by a deadline set by the Trump administration. He said Aalo was the first company to independently design and build the Aalo-X, which generates 10 megawatts of electricity.
