The Tarajal border crossing between the Spanish enclave of Ceuta and Morocco was largely calm on Sunday morning, with no new attempts reported to breach the border breakwater overnight. A small group of around ten people did try to enter the territory by swimming and were intercepted by Army personnel.
Efe confirmed that the crossing was operating normally, though pedestrian and vehicle traffic remained light at the customs point. Volumes were expected to rise in the coming hours because of Operation Paso del Estrecho, a seasonal transit operation.
The security presence on Sunday was notably smaller than on Saturday, on both the land and sea approaches. Army ground troops nonetheless remained deployed in the area, reinforcing border services and providing support to the Civil Guard.
At sea, the buoy barrier established on Saturday detected no fresh entry attempts. Several Civil Guard maritime units continued to patrol the zone.
Voluntary returns by people who had entered Ceuta during a large-scale crossing the previous Thursday also slowed sharply. Efe reported observing only around ten people of Moroccan origin crossing back into Morocco on Sunday morning, a steep drop from the numbers recorded in preceding days.
The Tarajal customs post remained fully operational for both pedestrians and vehicles, having faced disruption in recent days due to the mass arrival of people from Morocco.
