Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and opposition party PASOK engaged in a new political confrontation over a legal opinion regarding green recycling houses for Texan. Georgiadis claimed in a social media post that the opinion, drafted in 2025 for the ESPA service by Konstantina Georgaki, concluded that procedures were lawful and benefited the state. Georgaki is the secretary of PASOK's Institutions and Transparency Sector.
Georgiadis stated that the opinion places responsibility on the authors of an EDEL report. He called on PASOK President Nikos Androulakis to remove a video where Androulakis denounced the affair as a scandal. Georgiadis said he had asked the party and Androulakis since the morning whether the president stands by his statements or will remove the video.
PASOK response to minister claims
PASOK rejected the claims and accused the minister of trying to create false impressions. The party said in a statement that the document is not a finding or legality assessment of the contract, but a legal analysis of EDEL's responsibilities and potential administrative consequences.
PASOK press spokesperson Kostas Tsoukalas accused Georgiadis of attempting to disorient public debate. Tsoukalas urged the minister to answer questions about an investigation by the European Public Prosecutor's Office and the stopping of support for recycling houses after inquiries started.
Reactions from Georgiadis and Georgaki
Georgiadis responded in a second post, stating PASOK confused low-cost indoor recycling machines with outdoor procurement units. He said reports by Grant Thornton and EDEL confirm the equipment is not comparable to cheaper indoor models. He repeated his call for Androulakis to take down the video.
Georgaki stated her legal opinion was being misrepresented. She said the text only examines EDEL's authority limits under current law and does not certify that everything was done correctly in the Texan case. She added that it assigns no civil, criminal, or disciplinary liability to specific individuals, accusing Georgiadis of taking excerpts out of context.
Georgiadis issued a final reply, insisting the document supports his position and inviting the public to read the full text. He noted Georgaki wrote the legal opinion in 2025, the same year she became PASOK's secretary of institutions and transparency.
