The Russian gas export monopoly Gazprom has made the decision this Thursday at a general meeting of shareholders to suspend the distribution of the dividend corresponding to the 2021 financial year “given the current situation”, which has caused the company’s shares to plummet, that they lost up to 32.8% of their value on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
“The shareholders have decided that in the current situation nor is it advisable to pay dividends for 2021“, confirmed the deputy chairman of the council of Gazprom, Famil Sadygov, through the company’s official Telegram channel.
In this sense, the director of Gazprom explained that, at present, the company’s priorities are the implementation of the investment programincluding the gasification of the regions of the Russian Federation and preparation for the coming winter.
“And, of course, we must be ready to fulfill our obligations to pay higher taxess”, he added. Gazprom planned to distribute 1.24 trillion rubles (22.5 billion euros) in dividends for 2021, at a rate of 52.53 rubles per share.
