Shooting in a cemetery in Spain causes two deaths and one wounded

This event overshadowed the celebration of All Saints’ Day, which was lived normally in the rest of the Spanish cemeteries.

Two people were killed and one injured in a shooting that took place this Monday in a cemetery in the town of Torrent (Valencia, eastern Spain) during the celebration of All Saints’ Day, in which the relatives of the deceased come to the country’s cemeteries to visit their graves and bring them flowers.

The two deaths occurred due to the confrontation with firearms between two clans of gypsy ethnicity, reported police sources, who deployed a strong device to locate the perpetrator or perpetrators of the shots.

One of the deceased was a person who was visiting the cemetery at that time and did not belong to any of the clans, while the other was a member of one of them.

This event overshadowed the celebration of All Saints’ Day, which in the rest of the Spanish cemeteries was lived with the normality prior to the coronavirus pandemic, and without restrictions.

Even so, the general trend was the visit to the cemeteries in a staggered manner throughout the weekend and not just today to avoid the crowds of years prior to COVID-19.

It was a special day for the inhabitants of the areas affected by the Cumbre Vieja volcano, on the Canary Island of La Palma, where lava and ashes made access to some cemeteries impossible.

To remember the deceased buried there, the Spanish Armed Forces made a wreath from a helicopter over an area near one of those cemeteries. (I)
