A Cuban migrant died this Sunday from a gunshot while traveling in the caravan that is advancing through the southeastern Mexican state of Chiapas, in an event that has yet to be clarified that the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico will investigate.
“The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), through the Istmo Costa District Prosecutor’s Office, opened an investigation folder for the crime of qualified homicide, against whom or who are responsible, for the death of a male person, originally from the Republic of Cuba, who was found dead in the municipality of Pijijiapan ”, reported this Sunday in a statement.
After hearing the news, elements of the Istmo Costa District Attorney’s Office went to a rural road where they found near a vehicle “the lifeless body of Cristóbal ‘N’, originally from the Republic of Cuba, who in his anatomy presented injuries caused by firearm”.
The State Prosecutor’s Office reported that the event is already being investigated and indicated that inside the vehicle “a long, black firearm was found, supplied with a charger, which were also secured.”
Activists denounce the facts
Activists who accompany the migrant caravan, such as Irineo Mujica from Pueblo Sin Fronteras, denounced this Monday that in the last hours the National Guard of Mexico attacked several migrants with bullets, causing at least 13 injuries.
Mujica assured that they went to the medical center where several migrants wounded by bullets are treated by the National Guard, and asked the UN to attend to the event.
In addition, a complaint was filed with the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH).
Efe contacted several federal and local institutions, such as the Chiapas Prosecutor’s Office or the National Guard, without yet obtaining a response. The National Guard explained that in the next few hours they could publish an “information card.”
Later, federal sources confirmed to Efe that the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) will take up the case in the next few hours due to the “incompetence” to investigate the matter of the State Prosecutor’s Office.

Dengue cases
At the same time, the National Institute of Migration (INM) sent a bulletin where it reported this Monday that six cases of dengue were detected among the members of the migrant caravan, five of them minors.
