Emmanuel Macron, reelected as president of France after key elections for the future of Europe, has promised to be “the president of all”.
Together with his followers, the candidate of La República en Marcha has celebrated the victory in the second round of the presidential elections, and has said that in this new legislature “will hear the silence of the abstainers” and will respond to the reasons “for the anger” of those who have supported his rival, the far-right Marine LePento try to tackle the country’s wounds.
And it is that in these presidential elections there has been a level of unprecedented support for the far right, which has obtained 40% of the votes. Macron, with between 15.2 and 16.4 points difference over his rival, has thus thanked, in addition to his voters, those who have supported him only to “block” the extreme right, as well as those who have abstained .
“We will have to be benevolent and respectful because our country is plagued by so many doubts, so many divisions,” he defended. “No one will fall by the wayside. It will be up to us to work together to achieve this unity that will allow us to live a happier life in France. The years ahead will certainly not be quiet, but they will be historic,” he said.
On the Champs de Mars, with the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop, Macron addressed his first public words after knowing he was the winner of the process. In his speech he recalled the “painful” and “difficult” moments that he has gone through in these five years of “transformation”.
Looking to the future, he wanted to emphasize that these next five years will not be just a “continuity”. “We have a lot to do. The war in Ukraine is there to remind us that we went through tragic times in which France must show the clarity of its voice and develop its strength in all areas,” he emphasized.
Historic results on the far right
Le Pen predicts “a big change” with his historic results
As for the leader of the National Association, Marine LePen, has described as “historic” the result and considers that it lays the foundations for “a great change” and anticipates a “great electoral battle” in June, on the occasion of the parliamentary elections.
“Millions of compatriots have opted for the change“, Le Pen has maintained, with data that exceeds what he obtained in 2017, when he also faced Macron.
In this way, it has been presented as a “strong counterpower” against Macronthe “true opposition” in a scenario marked by the loss of support from the traditional parties.
