The Russian Armed Forces have claimed to have successfully tested this Wednesday the intercontinental ballistic missile ‘Sarmat’called to be a key piece of Moscow’s weapons arsenal and with the capacity to achieve targets across Europe and even United States territory.
The Ministry of Defense has reported that the ‘Sarmat’ was launched at 15:12 (local time) from a cosmodrome in the Archangel region, in northwestern Russia. The projectile successfully completed all its phases, according to the official version, collected by the Interfax news agency.
Once the testing phase is complete, the ‘Sarmat’ will become part of the Strategic Missile Forces and, in fact, the first regiment responsible for its potential use is already being trained in Krasnoyarsk. Its radius of reach is estimated between 17,000 and 18,000 kilometers.
The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, is confident that this new missile will make those who are trying to “threaten” Russia think and has warned that the ‘Sarmat’ can circumvent all current defense systems. In this sense, he has assured that there will not be a similar technology for a long time.
