Eurostat has published the latest data on man-hour costs in the European Union. It consists of the salary and other costs of the employer. The differences are, as you can guess, colossal. Work in Bulgaria is valued the least, where the hour is EUR 7 for the employee. Poland, although higher in qualification, is losing to several countries in the region.

How much does it cost to work in Poland? Three times less than in Germany
Lower than Bulgarian costs are in force in Romania, where the hourly rate is 8.5 euros. Many countries of the Eastern bloc have to pay a total of around EUR 10-11 per hour – this is the case in Hungary (EUR 10.4), Lithuania (11.3), Latvia (11.1) and Croatia (EUR 11.2).
In Poland, costs are also not high. It amounts to EUR 11.5. This is less than, for example, in Estonia (14.5), the Czech Republic (15.3) or Slovakia (14.2). The diametrical difference can be seen in comparison with Germany, where the hourly rate is three times more expensive, as the cost is 37.2 euro per hour. Higher is, among others in France (37.9), Belgium (41.6), the Netherlands (38.3) and Austria (36.7).
The leaders are the northern countries – Norway (47.3) and Denmark (45.8), Sweden (37.3) and Finland (34.4). In Spain, the hourly wage costs EUR 22.8, in Portugal, EUR 15.7. At the southern end of the union, Italy is at 29.8. In the most western part of Ireland, 32.3 euro.
The minimum wage and hourly wage in Poland
In 2022, the minimum wage in Poland is PLN 3010 gross, and the minimum hourly wage is PLN 19.70 gross. In both cases, this means an increase of approx. 7.5 percent. compared to the amounts from 2021. The monthly remuneration “on hand” is approx. PLN 2,364 per hand. In this approach, the employee’s net wage “on the minimum” – compared to the previous year – increased by approx. 14.6 percent.
