The President of Ukraine highlights the “tragic moment”, when “many Ukrainians who profess European values are dying”.
The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, delivered on Monday the questionnaire to receive the status of a candidate country for accession to the European Union (EU), a step that brings kyiv closer to its membership of the bloc.
Zelensky stressed that the step is one of the “stages” of kyiv’s path to the EU, “an aspiration for which the Ukrainian citizenry has been fighting.”
In this sense, he stressed that the progress of the process takes place at a “tragic moment”, when “many Ukrainians who profess European values are dying”.
“However, the Ukrainian people are united by this goal: to feel equal, part of Europe, part of the EU,” he added.
“Another step on Ukraine’s European path,” said EU Ambassador to Ukraine Matti Maasikas. On his Twitter account, he has reported that he has personally received the document delivered by Zelensky, which the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, gave him ten days ago.
